Not the best idea!

I'm just in piccadilly grabbing some early morning sun until my 216 leaves and i notice this jpt bus pull up at the lights. One thing we are taught is not to drive around with doors open. Especially in the middle of manchester. People tend to just jump on as the feel if you do and if your just setting off and they end up under the wheels then this causes huge problems for everyone. Working overtime today and friday as i'm still on my summer hols. Finish at 1 so it's a nice easy duty today.

  1. I dont think Stagecoach drivers these days would actually drive round with doors open, not on an Enviro anyway as I would have thought the constant beep beep reminding the drivers the doors are open would get annoying after a while

Out of interest is it actually illegal for a bus driver to drive with the doors open only if it is I've never seen the police pulling a bus over for this

  2. I never would, I thought you were talking about the bus being halfway over the stop line! That offence always riles me , you have a sharp turn to make, and halfway round, some joker is a full car length over their stop line, and usually on a mobile phone too!

  3. I think it is illegal, but I have seen some driversdo this. Most recent was a driver with a packed Optare Solo on the 346. Not good considering it was full of passengers, but it was probably boiling.

  4. In the 90's it was the 'norm' to drive around on days like today with the doors open.
Its not just people jumping on but people jumping off as well. When i was at school a kid from our school jumped off while the bus was still moving and ended up under the bus.

Another thing that annoys me is when drivers let passengers on and off at traffic lights. Recently i was on a First bus and the driver let 4 kids off at traffic lights on a very busy road. If they had walked out in to the traffic and been hit im sure the driver of the bus would have been to blame.

  5. They open the doors every time on the 378, coming out of one of the Wilmslow/Handforth estates, possibly to get a better view of the road.

  6. What is with all the roadworks around Greater Manchester?

Stalybridge is a disaster with a lack of diversion signs and that mess at the bottom of Newton Street is rediculous. Bad planning.
