Look What I Found

Not in work unitl 1 so i thought i would do a spot of tidying up and came across this fares book for the Tameside depot from 1980. You can see how much the fares have increased over the years. I might scan it at some point if i get time and make an ebook out of it. I have scanned this page which shows the 408 409 and 410 route. which went to to Thornham near Royton. Loads of interesting old routes in here good find i think, forgot i had it.
Anyhow off to gym soon then got 389 and 217s Hopefully the traffic in Manchester has improved slightly on yesterday when everything was running very late.

  1. I have a SELNEC SOUTHERN Ashton & Stalybridge District May 1973 Timetable.

God knows why - it's just hung around on a shelf.

The 236 is still the 6 and runs from the Norfolk Arms to Deansgate Station and the 409 is still the 9.

You can borrow it if you want I'll drop you an email.

  2. Bring back the orange and white, PD2s, Metropolitans and the old Manchester Corp Fleetlines, especially the initial two batches NE and VM registrations).

  3. The Hartshead Inn on the 409 timetable changed its name to the Red House in the mid80s. Also on Lees New Road the "New Nook" is now "The Turnpike".

  4. The Stalybridge = Oldham route was the 8 (408).

  5. I also have that fare manual in my collection. The fare for the 346 route on my usual journey was 23p and has gone up almost tenfold in the last 30 years to £1.80 (or £1.70 on First Pioneer).

  6. 10p, 20p, 30p, 40, 52p, 60p...
    Er, 52p?

Gerald - the Hartshead Inn was always known as the Red House, even though it was painted white for many years, so they changed the name officially to the Red House and painted it red!
