All going so well!

Finished at 1230. Went home got the bike out and headed out. I thought. Hyde, gee cross, stockport, manc, couple of beers in the village and home. Well NO! My crap bike has let me down again. Oddly racing traffic once more. I have lost my top gear cog. For some reason it's just spinning round. Not good, not happy. The cycle to work scheme has just started at stagecoach so i think it's time for a new one. Anyway i'm at macdonalds on hyde road sulking in a strawberry milkshake. Lol just kidding. Will start to head home and miss town out just in case i lose anymore cogs. Been a good few hours though went to take a few pictures of places i see all the time on the 330 but don't get chance to stop off at. Will post them later. This station is very interesting. Its north reddish station and for some reason there is only one train a week passes through here. It's on a friday and it only goes from stockport to stalybridge. How pointless is that!

Its been like that for years. I think its the only train to pass through Denton station as well and is dubbed 'The Ghost Train'.
Trainspotters flock to get photo's on a Friday.

  2. Pointless maybe, but at least they have kept it open for use. Plus it gives the trainspotters something to do on a Friday :>P

Good to hear Stagecoach have adopted the cycle scheme just in time :>)

  3. The train is known as a "parliamentary". It's done to keep the passenger license on the line from Stockport to Stalybridge. The train actually starts at Man Picc empty, travelling via Styal to Stockport from where it carries passengers to Stalybridge. From Stalybridge it then goes empty to Newton Heath depot. On selected Fridays it is run as an "event" known as "The folk train" with singers on board and breakfast available at Stalybridge Buffet Bar.

  4. I've been on this train way back in the 1970's

  5. It used to run Saturday mornings but recently it runs just before 9.30am on Fridays. I suspect the timing is chosen so transport pass holders can't get a free ride.

  8. I used to get the Stockport to Stalybridge train frequently in the early 80s when I lived in Stockport as my kids used to love going on trains and this was a real treat for them!

That's Reddish South, surely? Looking south-east towards Stockport. The station proper is on the other side of the bridge on Reddish Road, just before Houldsworth Square, and you get to the "station" down a long steepish flight of steps from the bridge. routes 203 and 317 and others, like the weird one that goes around in circles all round the houses on the way to Ashton, pass by there. (no 7?) Reddish south is the one on the Stalybridge line: Reddish North, a mile or so further up at the Bull's Head, is on the Sheffield and Chinley line into Mancheter.
