Not one to give up i have replaced the cassette on the bike and i'm having the last few hours of sunshine outdoors. I just come down to daisy nook where the cafe is and this is the latest creation. It's been built over the past few months and is now open. It's a boat that has tables and swings on for the kids to play with looks nice actually. Was on my last early today. 9 5 tomorrow which is ok. Then 3 12 - 8s not good when it's sunny but needs must. Not sure where i am going to head to might just do the ashton then rochdale canals will see where my nose takes me.
Fantastic. I guess it relates to the canal that once ran through. Glad the bike is fixed.
ReplyDeleteGlad the bikes fixed and look forward to seeing photos of your trips out, I'd have a bike myself but I'd find fixing the thing a problem to be honest with you, I know people think having a bike and riding it is easy but it isnt its the maintenance that can be the problem at times when something goes wrong as you've found out recently
ReplyDeleteMe and the Mrs had a ride down to portland basin yesterday.I knew basically one canal went towards droyslden, and the other towards Hyde. We took the Hyde one,and came off where the track became very narrow and muddy. When navigated with a wing a prayer to a main road, and it appeared we were halfway up Market St in Hyde! After uploading our journey, looking at google earth, that canal carries on,and goes past Brabins park in marple.Could you be kind enough to advise the state of the path after where we came off,it was getting quite scary! Does it continue and is perfectly passable ?
ReplyDeleteAw chris i am gutted for you. That is a very short very muddy part. It stops as quick as it comes and then it's perfect for mountain bikes. It's well worth the trip to marple and even further when you feel ready. Take some butties to marple it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks m8 , we will do that really soon!
ReplyDeletewhat do you think of the proposed new london bus pictures on the omnibus site looks nothing like a routmaster
ReplyDeleteThere is a "virtual tour" of the Peak Forest Canal on my other website Pennine Waterways along with the Huddersfield Narrow, Rochdale, etc. Have a look to see what you missed, Chris, and get some ideas for future rides, Simon!
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, there is more about the canal that ran through Daisy Nook on the Hollinwood Canal Society website.
Thanks martin. The hollinwood canal would be brilliant if it was restored. I think it's asking too much hard work though. I know there has been discussion in recent years but i'm not aware if anything has come about though said discussions.
ReplyDeleteAnd the route master looks silly. Other designs have proven to be good enough why design something so daft?
ReplyDeletethey have been doing work on the canal in dasiy nook park
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Martin , we have something to look forward too now , and i will browse your superb site for photo clues as we bowl along !
ReplyDeleteWell,we did it! 20 miles there and back, had our dinner in the park at Marple. Many thanks for the help.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunatley we had to be back in Ashton for 2:30,but next time we do it,I want to go to the end at Strines.
