As i thought! Very enjoyable today. Just finished. Been pretty busy. Some confusion some not bothered, some moaners. Can't please everyone. I wouldn't like to be here monday morning i bet it's going to be hammered. Back in tomorrow when the skyride is on so a slight diversion tomorrow. I never realised how many buses this place had. It's huge. And there are still loads out on the road.
Great pic.
ReplyDeleteLooks slightly erry in the evening.
are the remain dragon magic buses still there
ReplyDeletedragons weny last week i believe to make room for the 16 extra buses for this metrolink work.
ReplyDeleteMic the Dragons are being stored at a site in Trafford park owned by Stagecoach. Theres some Olympians there as well but a few Olly's have gone to Charles street for the summer.
ReplyDeletethanks Felix very helpful are they selling Charles st or holding on to it to stored buses like at Glossop
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "stored", are they out of service then?
ReplyDeleteI do like those buses, despite headroom issues on the top deck lol
Well there delicenced and i think untaxed, but should be back in use in September, although theres rumours the Dragons are going before the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteIve never liked the Dragons, ever since there time on the 216, they remind me of cattle wagons lol.
Dont know anything about Charles Street Mic, theres plenty of buses there both inside and out. Glossop is up for sale and was rumoured to have been sold last Autumn to a housing developer although nothings been said since.
well if it has been sold I guess the buses there would have been moved
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember Charles Street was intended to be knocked down and houses built but i suppose with the problems with the ecomony its probably been put on hold. Stagecoach dont seem in any rush to empty it.
ReplyDeleteNot sure with Glossop, altough its got a for sale sign outside so i would guess its still for sale lol.
I've been in Princess Road Depot before and it is huge, with all the bays for the service buses at one end and if I remember the workshops at the far end of the depot, be a shame when it goes later this year
ReplyDeleteI started as a conductor at Princess Rd.It doesnt look any different. One of my everlasting memories of the place was just finished a late shift, went round the bus checking for lost property, went upstairs and a bloke who got on the bus, looking a bit worse for wear was asleep,so i thought. So i didnt wake him, an unwritten rule we had was never wake a drunk up.A few conductors had been assaulted by waking a drunks, who got upset about being disturbed. Tramps also crept in to kip down as well.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, went to sign in next day,and was told to report to depot managers office. He was called Mr. Blease.went in office was asked if i had checked bus last night, said yes found nothing, except this drunk guy. He wasnt drunk he said, he was dead.
My fifteen minutes of fame, in the local papers. Busman leaves dead man on bus.could tell a few stories about what went on at Prinny Rd.On the buses was mild in comparison.
Just a P.S to my previous post. I started at Princess Rd.in 1977.
ReplyDeleteDragons on a 216... mind you not as a bad as when the ex-maynes Marshall was on it lol If Manchester road closes then it will be an absolute nightmare, both for car and bus users... maybe even rail if they get any extra users at that time, considering most journeys are rammed.
ReplyDeleteBusman, is Princess rd depot closing down??? where would all of the buses go to... I mean is there enough space available else where lol
William Princess road is closing and a new multi purpose depot is being built at Sharston. Wont be as big, with Hyde road and Ashton expected to get some of Princess roads work.
ReplyDeleteYep Dragons were a regular thing on the 216 a good few years ago. I rememeber a Solo on the 216 not so long ago lol.
Interesting recollection Paul, i bet that happened alot. I heard at Warrington the buses that were out after midnight had no heating upstairs so tramps and drunks wouldn't fall asleep on them.
Have you read the book celebrating 100 years of Princess road? Ive heard its very interesting book with some great story's.
Thats a great story Paul, I tend to try to keep them on and leave them on the wash lol. It is a shame there is certainley something about this place. Even though its run down and dirty, the smell and the feel of it is very nice. This is the biggest depot in Manchester compared to number of buses. The 15 and 256 i think it is is already going to hyde road and stockport are preparing to get some routes with ashton taking some stockport routes when Princess road moves to Sharston. Also makes you wonder about the trafford park land too?
ReplyDeleteI think Stagecoach bought the land at Trafford Park in preporation for the doomed TIF two years ago, but with them using the site for the first time now it makes me wonder if they will keep it and maybe create a small outstation there in the future.
ReplyDeleteWhere abouts is the land in Trafford Park?
ReplyDeleteIve not been there myself but a friend tells me its on a large piece of land across the road from the Kelloggs Factory. Apparently all the buses are clearly visable from the road.
ReplyDeletewhich stockport routes are coming to ashton been away for two weeks am a bit behind the latest news
ReplyDeletethe only one I have heard of is the 317
