Nice to see the police are out with the inspectors today. It's always funny seeing the overriders and ticket fraudsters getting what they deserve. I'm waiting for my 7 and saw these getting off the 347 stand! It's just a shame they are never there when you want them to be.
I would have thought this was more a job for PCSO's rather than regular police officers.
ReplyDeleteWhen i recently had my car broken into it took two days for the police to come and take a statement as they were'too busy'.
Too busy catching fare evaders.
Fare evaders affect more people than a car break-in.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteI recently witnessed a simular operation in Oldham. It's something that needs dealing with but as most people caught just had there passes confiscated or were given cautions perhaps it would be a job PCSO'S could have dealt with.
But on the other hand i can see the advantage of spending the day in a dry warm dry bus station.
Leave the serious crime for another day!
I'm not sure of the percentage as i am still working but i remember from a training meeting. A large percentage of the people with fraudulent tickets are wanted for other crimes. From memory i think it's about 70 percent. This is why real police do it. It's also reassuring for the normal people on the bus.
ReplyDeleteIm not saying its a bad thing. Its a crime at the end of the day. However this type of operation must use a certain amount of resources. Sometimes it seems a little over the top to catch a few benefit cheats and junkies.
