Troubled times

Just in piccadilly watching world go by. Heard that Bluebird had a few problems this week with fuel. I know of two occasions in the past week of buses running out of fuel whilst out on service. An inside source tells me the company was rationed due to financial issues but i couldn't confirm if this is true or not. Maybe the bus wars are taking there toll?

  1. Oh dear , I don't mind bluebird, I never hear they are taking on other companies routes, and their fleet is quite nice too.

  2. Bluebird have recently taken on Swans GMPTE tenders (from 4th October??) after they turned them in (159 Middleton and Stockport 300). Swans continue with their Cheshire Bus contracts: Airport 200 and 289 Knutsford.

  3. The 300 is that the Stockport free bus that Swans recently won?

  4. Swans have given up the 159 and 300 from 1st October becuase they were unhappy with the way GMPTE paid them apparently, so Bluebird have taken over the 159 [which they ran till recently] and the 300 in Stockport.

There has been problems with Bluebird for a while. Alot of drivers come and go very quickly, but it would be ashame to loose another old independent.

  5. The fact that a company can just up a route at the drop of a hat is shocking. They agree the tendor when they get awarded the route. I doubt it will be favoured when they tendor against anyone else in the future.

  7. Couldn't agree with you more Oldham100, its something you never see Stagecoach and First doing but some of the smaller operators seem to do it alot.
The way i see it a bus company goes into a contract with the PTE to run a bus service for a period of time in which they are paid to do, pulling of these services before that period of time is up should be breach of contract.

But apparently the PTE did OK this swap between Swans and Bluebird, but if the rumours about Bluebird are true then they could end up with yet another bus company - its like musical buses lol.

Anon there was a Plaxton Dart on the 236 again on Monday night, when i asked the driver he blaimed the 216, saying they were having to plough extra buses in at both ends to keep it on time, so that may be why there is these odd workings on the 347.
