Cold miserable and still wet.

Just started. On a split today. I'm the first 217 from the hospital. No one getting on but i'm sure there will be when i get round to mossley. Although we might lose them once speedwell start with there 1 quid fixed price bus service next month. Will be a lot quicker than this too!

  1. Services 217 and 218 (Manchester - Tameside Hospital) are extended from Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne to provide a circular loop around Mossley.

  3. Thats right Ashtonian they are.
Speedwell from next month are starting a S50 service. This will go from Mossley to Manchester every 20 minutes, The route will be like a 350 then a 216. They wil not be taking any s1 tickets and all fares are £1 adult and i think 50p for kids if i remember the flyer correctly.
So this will have a huge effect on the SC £1-20/£140/£1-80 regulars out of picc and the First passengers who reg pay from Mossley. This i think is poss why we have already started to implement floaters on the 216. So SC cannot get accused of doing it after the event has happened.

I could see the £1.00 fare having a greater effect on short distance journeys. The single First Manchester fare to Ashton from Mossley (Brookbottom, let alone Hey Farm) exceeds £2.00. Given the option of two adults and a child travelling for £5.20 or £2.50 to Ashton, casual users may prefer the latter.

Floater: in this context, a casual passenger who would only make occasional bus journeys, though not often enough to justify the purchase of a weekly/monthly/annual season ticket between his/her desired journey.

  6. Maybe but to us. A Floater is a Bus that has been put into service that is not on the timetable. It runs to no times and with no running board. The inspectors at each end which have been in place for a couple of weeks now, hold the bus back until they see fit to let it go. A floating Bus. They will say its because of the congestion problems but it all seems very coincidental.
