Busy route

Just had a trip over Huddersfield on the 184. Was quiet coming over but leaving the bus station the his was hammered. Never realised it did so well and most the people are going over the tops too. Shame it's not a bit quicker. Would be nice to see a limited stop service. The Yorkshire rider bus 365 I think it was. Was always quiet when I got on it.

  1. Spent three years travelling to/from Huddersfield while at uni on the 184 (apart from the first couple of weeks when it was the 365).

The route certainly has become a busier one over the years, particularly during term-times when students travelled over to Huddersfield for uni or college, along with all the daytrippers throughout the year.

Having used it a lot over the year (184 being my local route as well as bus to/from uni), it would be nice if there were a faster route. One of the main problems that the 184 has timekeeping. Between Huddersfield and Lees, the service would often stop at points along the route as it was running early then runs late between Oldham and Manchester.

  2. I've always found the same thing myself when driving the route. Loads of time from Hudd to Lees, then late the rest of the way. On one occassion, I had a single decker, picked it up at Mumps 20 minutes late. The bus wouldn't do more than 25 mph uphill, hit thick fog over the tops so had to slow down to 20 mph. But still got to Hudd virtually on time - it's a driver's dream route ....lol...

    1. I remember when Yorkshire rider used gold rider double deck coach seated buses on the route 5501/2/15 great ride and then on a saturday the first trip was a leyland Tiger plaxton bodied gold rider coach that then did X36 service when it got back to Huddersfield

Yorkshire Rider did a great job, still unsure whether it was a limited stop service (I thought the limited stop services were present on the 184 and the 180 only. That was in the day when the 427 and 429 were around)
I know for a fact though there have been many a times when the route has been a quicker one.
I know that between Huddersfield and Oldham the service may be sufficient for a single deck service to make going over Stanedge that bit quicker, but this wouldn't work for the busier section of the route between Oldham and Manchester because there isn't enough room
