Such a shame.

Just on my way home and just passed this place. I came here a lot when i was a child to watch the wrestling. It's such a shame it has closed down. There is groups around trying to get the tameside theatre open again but it's not looking too good.

  1. Indeed but what can be done in an age where demographics have changed and peoples' entertainment choices have drifted from the theatre to multiplexes.

These grand palaces were built in an era before television and You Tube. Families spent time together going out especially at weekends.

This is not a criticism, rather an observation of todays reality.

While I am a fan of the preservation of old buildings they have to still be usefull.

For this building just knock it down.
The real and true solution for a Tameside theatre is to build something like the Bridgewater Hall or the Disney Concert Hall we have here in Los Angeles. Something brand spanking new with exciting modern architecture.

  3. Good points made by Ashtonian, I also checked out the thread on Martins site. I love old buildings and hate to see any demolished but sadly if the building is not functional anymore and will be left to deteriorate and become an eyesore, what's the point.
